There is no better time to purchase a home than right now, TODAY. Yes, for the past year we have all been bombarded with media hype concerning the economic state of our country and a housing market that is supposed to be in shambles. You can't help from feeling a little depressed about it. But the truth is the TriCities economy and housing market are very healthy. Sure, sales have slowed down a little compared to the last few record years. But there are just as many buyers looking for homes right now as there ever has been. However, I am noticing a disturbing trend among several of these buyers right now. They are not buying, they are waiting. They are mistakenly waiting for two things to come down further- interest rates and home prices- because they don't want to miss their opportunity at getting a great deal. Well, I can't blame them but I need to tell these buyers what the media is not. Number one, if interest rates are below 7% then they ARE getting a good deal! I say this because most buyers, especially first time buyers, do not realize that not very long ago interest rates were around 18% or higher! I have talked to buyers before who thought they died and went to heaven because they purchased their home at 13%. I am not saying that a buyer shouldn't shop around and do their homework, but what I am saying is don't get paralyzed by stressing on 1/10th of a %. The fact is, rates really cannot go much lower, so sooner or later they will have nowhere to go but up. Second, for those buyers waiting for home prices to go lower, I need to let you know the facts. They are not going to go any lower, and that's because home prices in the TriCities never did fall. This is one of the few spots in the ENTIRE NATION where home values have steadily been going UP. The reality is this: There is no better time to purchase a home than right now, today. Think about it. Interest rates are at record lows and can't really go much lower, and every day houses in the TriCities become a little more expensive than the day before. Not to mention, our inventory has been steadily decreasing so there are probably fewer homes to choose from today than there were yesterday. Don't get caught up in the media hype and miss this opportunity to enjoy 2009 in your new home!
